Miss Lilly & I when she was about 6 months of age
Lillianna Rose aka Lilly was born 23 June, 2008. She was born very premature at 28 weeks gestation. My daughter developed a severe urinary tract infection at 25weeks and went into preterm labor with Lilly. The doctors were able to buy her three more weeks before she delivered Lilly. Lilly weighed in at a mere 3 pounds, 3 ounces and was 15 inches long. We did not get to hold her for the first two hours of her life as the doctors worked feverishly to try and save her. When we did get to finally see her she was wheeled in the room in an isolette and had all kinds of tubes and wires hooked up to her. She was transferred to a level 1 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit about an hours drive from the hospital where she was born.
It was touch and go at first, she spent her first Fourth of July getting a Blood Transfusion. Once she got the transfusion it was like she was a different baby, her color returned to a normal pink color, where it was just an ashen grey before. She did remarkably well and was released to come home after spending 11 weeks in the NICU.
Her development has been outstanding and she seems to suffer no ill effects from her early birth. She is smart as a tack and a happy go lucky little girl.
