Alexandria Elyce

Alexandria Elyce aka Lexi as we lovingly call her, was born full term at 37 wks 5 days Gestation. She was born July 10, 2009 and weighed in at 6 pounds, 11 oz and 19 1/2 inches long.My daughters pregnancy was complicated by a Placental Abruption which was no caught until the delivery. Lexi swallowed a huge amount of blood at birth and had to be suctioned out repeatedly. Luckily she and my daughter both pulled through miraculously! Lexi was also born with a birth defect called a Duodenal Web. Her intestines had failed to form properly during the early weeks of pregnancy and as a result, she had problems feeding during the first few days of her life.
She was transferred to St. Louis Childrens Hospital, via Helicopter at 4 days of age and she had surgery on the 5th day of life. The surgery took over 6 hours to perform. She pulled through and spent 4 weeks in the Neonatal Intensive Care unit to recover before she could come home. The picture you see above was taken the day we brought her home from the Hospital.

Lexi has always been a high maintenance little girl. She certainly gave the nurses in the NICU a run for their money. She has always had a very fussy temperament and still to this day she does. There is a world of difference in her and her sister Lilly. Lilly is more laid back and reserved whereas Lexi is just boisterous and a regular little clown.
